I don’t often recommend eating a donut, but when I do, it’s to end polio.
Today is World Polio Day. Once the scourge of children everyone, since 1988 polio cases have dropped 99.9% due to world wide vaccination efforts. Only Afghanistan and Pakistan reported cases of polio last year. Through profound vaccination efforts, India is on the verge of being declared polio free. When children are vaccinated in these developing countries their pinkie finger is dipped in purple dye much like we’ve seen with elections in newly democratic countries.
Dunkin’ Donuts is giving away purple pinkie donuts with every $2 donation. The Tennessee Rotary Club is adding on $3 and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation is adding another $10. Each donut provides $15 towards eradicating polio from the planet.
Consider joining the fight either by buying a donut, donating directly to the cause, and, of course, continuing the effort in our community of vaccinating our children on an appropriate schedule.
